The Alliance was founded in April 2008 when Mr. François Zimeray, the Human Rights Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Noanne Tenneson, a lawyer from Jeantet & Associés, discovered a common interest in using their skills to advance human rights and protect children’s rights.Prior to his role with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Zimeray worked as an attorney with an affluent business law firm for 20 years. During this time he struggled to find a balance between his passion for humanitarian work and his professional responsibilities – an experience shared by many of today’s young lawyers, eager to integrate humanitarian work into their legal careers.

Mr Zimeray saw an opportunity to harness this growing social conscience, and decided to create a way for firms to provide human rights-related work in an economically realistic way. He contacted Mrs. Tenneson, a former colleague from Jeantet & Associés, to help him achieve this goal.Throughout 2008, Mr. Zimeray and Mrs. Tenneson investigated the best possible means of advancement, and on May 4th 2009 the Alliance of Lawyers for Human Rights was founded.
